Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds

The Gage County Coalition P.A.T.C.H./Healthy Lifestyles Task Force, Blue Valley Mental Health Center, Beatrice Community Hospital and Gage County Safe Schools/Healthy Students have adopted the theme "HEALTHY MINDS/HEALTHY BODIES" for the 2005-2006 school year calendar. This educational and event oriented campaign will keep monthly healthy lifestyle topics in the media, school & work newsletters, & websites. Healthy minds and bodies lead to healthy lives.

Wellness is often defined by the simple equation: healthy minds and healthy bodies equal improved performance. When under high levels of stress, and when feeling poorly, our decision-making skills are not at their peak. A refreshed and relaxed mind leads to improved concentration, problem solving, and creativity. This is true for parents at home, people at worksites and children at school. But how does one achieve that level of health when surrounded by rules, deadlines, traffic, transitions, conflicts, and other everyday anxiety?

Total well-being is broken down into four main categories: mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. When the four divisions are balanced and incorporated, the body will deal with stress more effectively. To achieve complete well-being: mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, you must first make your health a priority. Failure to invest in your own health leads to the body breaking down, which can result in forgetfulness, headaches, fatigue, and inability to sleep. After all, improved physical health is a direct result of composed mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Over the next few months this campaign will publicize ways and resources to help adults and children develop healthier minds and bodies. For further information about the campaign, contact:
