The Gage County PATCH group received a grant from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services for promotion of cardiovascular health, nutrition and physical activity. This grant has been used to fund the "Walk-About Gage County" program. The target population of "Walk-About Gage County" is families with younger children. Walking is an inexpensive cardiovascular activity that also helps with the fight against childhood obesity.  Monies from the $3500 grant have been used for advertising, low-fat snacks on the trail, and pedometers for measuring walking activity. The PATCH web site offers fitness and nutrition tips as well as up-dates on the "Walk-About Gage County" program. Registrations from 430 individuals, including 160 children, have been received.  Planned trail walks at seven sites in the Beatrice area have helped spur interest for the event. The finale event will be held at Chautauqua Park at 1 pm on May 18 with special drawings for those turning in their log sheets at that time will add to the fun.

THANK YOU Barb and Jamie for all your help.
