PATCH Mission: |
| To promote coordination and resource sharing in health promotion and education; and ultimately to enhance the health and health awareness of the citizens of Gage County (NE). |
|
|
| The Gage County (NE) PATCH coalition was initiated in 1986. For over 20 years, the Beatrice Community Hospital has sponsored the Gage County PATCH. The hospital allocates a portion of one employee's time to coordinating the PATCH coalition. Data gathered via a Behavioral Risk Factor Survey in 1991 have prompted the coalition's interest in promotion and development of many projects and programs. During this survey, 400 Gage County residents were surveyed by telephone regarding their lifestyle behaviors. The survey information was tabulated and helped formulate the Gage County PATCH team's goals and objectives through the year 2010. Interventions and future plans in PATCH will be designed around these formal objectives. Coordination with existing projects and groups will be the overall goal. |
In coordination with the national health objectives, Gage County PATCH has
targeted four objectives as guidelines in planning toward the year 2010:
|
|
|
| Activities of Gage County PATCH |
| * Nutritional Education and Seat Belt Safety |
| Ongoing programs in nutrition education and seat belt safety are conducted by PATCH team members with PATCH educational material. |
| * "Safety City/Safe Kids" |
| An educational program that introduces safety concepts to preschool thru elementary grades through safety awareness and prevention procedures. Buckle Bear, Safety City model and handouts are all part of this program. |
| * Library walking Track |
| PATCH provides continued development and support of this course that can be used by all ages in the lower level of the Public Library; purchased educational materials on cardiovascular health and related information. Long range planning toward an alternate location. |
| * Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs Council (ATOD) |
| Beatrice Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs Council is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles, raising awareness of tobacco, alcohol and drug issues and preventing first use of tobacco, alcohol and drugs by youth. Educational programs and enforcement of laws are advocated. Prevention activities include, but are not limited to, "Teens Night Out" and "Guiding Good Choices".
