| Gage County on the Move!! is a 5 month (Feb 1-June 30) walking/activity competition for Gage County. It is open to one and all! Gage County is competing with four other NE communities to log the most steps per person. The winner receives $10,000 to be used to enhance walking programs in Gage County. Participants can register by mailing the tear off segment on the registration form or on-line at nebraskaonthemove.org. Pedometers will be available for participants at the Beatrice Public Library after February 1. All physical activities can be converted to steps by using the conversion sheet available in the tools section of the Nebraska on the Move website (nebraskaonthemove.org). Log sheets and conversion tools are also available at drop off locations or Gage County on the Move!! contacts. Drop off box locations include Beatrice Public Library, Beatrice Community Hospital, Indian Creek Mall, or the Beatrice YMCA. | ||

Do you live, work, or shop in Gage County? Do you walk at the mall? Walk your dog? Walk on your treadmill? Do circuit training? Play basketball? Walk for your job? Do you swim? Do water aerobics? Do you read meters? Do you have exercise as a New Year’s resolution? Then get registered! Start the year off with a renewed commitment to yourself! Any physical activity can be converted to steps at www.Nebraskaonthemove.org! Computer access is available at the Beatrice Public Library. The campaign begins Feb 1. Register anytime thru:
Pedometers for registrants are available at the Beatrice Public Library after February 1, 2006. Classrooms may find the pedometers a help to promote physical activity or as a challenge to chase away winter blahs! Log sheets and activity conversion charts are available at:

Optional special events for prizes throughout the campaign include: February: Dog Walkers especially encouraged to register! Get registered, pick up a pedometer, and start adding up those daily trips with your pet! If you list your pet’s name on your log sheets that are turned put in the drop off boxes, the pet will be entered into a special drawing for a doggy bed! March Madness: Mall walkers, treadmill faithful, and library walkers! Send in your name to a contact person to be eligible for a prize drawing. Classroom challenge: The weather outside is frightful! How many miles can one classroom walk in March? The classroom walking the most miles will win a pizza party for the class! Strategies: Submit your tip or strategy for maintaining a walking/exercise habit to PATCH and be entered into a drawing for a Nebraska state parks pass! April: Women in the Workplace! Planned walks on four Beatrice trails on Saturday morning. Attend and be entered into a drawing for a week-end at Mahoney Park! May: Footloose! Walk the trails at state parks or recreation areas in southeast Nebraska. Send in to PATCH the most unusual site that you saw while on your southeast Nebraska trail for a special walking basket! June: Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? We are nearing the end of the five month campaign and the steps have counted up to a million or more by now! The online participant with the most accumulated steps will receive a gift of $100 and a week-end at the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City!
